This site aim is the promoting of walking & exercise using the many great walks found around the North & North West London area of Barnet. There is a good & varied selection of quality footpaths, parks & open space that have been preserved & set aside for wild life & the promotion of good health & exercise by local authorities. These are all freely available in the majority of areas (If you don't take the car) around the borough, or at least within a very short bus or train ride. Our personal aim is to get to every part of Barnet & walk all the paths, open space's, bridle ways, & share our experience's with postings back here with our hopefully unbiased findings on accessibility, ease of walks, local amenity's in this green belt area. There will be a ratings guide so you can plan your walks out around Barnet.
Can you help? Yes please! Your local knowledge will be of great help & very important in helping us in putting this site together. I have personally lived in the Mill Hill area for fifty plus years & finding out something new with each new area i am walking in. So you hopefully your knowledge of the area will also help us.
We would also really appreciate every ones opinion on their findings whilst out & about on your walks, this will contribute to the site & help others that use the Barnet walks site. We would like to know of any great walks you have had in the Barnet & the surrounding area's & your local knowledge of events that are coming up through out the year that we can add to the whats on area on this site.
We would also very much appreciate any old & new photo's/images that we can place on the site, as we would like to have historical "now & then" area on each of the walks.
To help keep paths in a safe & good order for walking, we also aim to have info on where you can report walks to the local authority's that may have problems. This might be from damaged paths, fencing, bridal ways, that could cause personal injury, to other things like fly tipping & excessive dirt & litter. (Report a problem to Barnet) If your not sure on the procedure, you will be able to send us the info with images on the problem & we can report the problem for you.
There is also areas on the site with some good safety tips & advice on what types of walking boot's, shoes & clothing that is available out there for anything from a local couple of hour walks to the longer one day walks. We have also provided a printable list of what to take with you & walking maps.
The site will have good information for all walking enthusiasts & Ramblers, & cover all areas like Totteridge, Barnet, Mill Hill, Finchley, Hendon, Hampstead, Golders Green, Edgware, Burnt Oak, Colindale, including walks like the Capital Ring & London Loop that passes through these Barnet green betlt suburbs. We also hope to post local wildlife stop off's & places of intrest. Plus good places to grab a bite to eat with posible tea, coffee & possible a beer.
