Walking in the London's Barnet area of the Hampstead Heat Extension

Walks near to Barnet
Barnet! Unfortunately only manages to get 110 acres of the very nice but nearly 800 acres site of the Hampstead heath. This area is called the "Hampstead Heath Extension". The area is a very well kept, & wealthy residential area with many well known personalities of the past & present day living or having lived within its area.
The St Jude’s church founded in 1907 by Dame Henrietta Barnett (wife of the Canon Samuel Barnett) has a prominent spire that overlooks the area & can be seen from most areas of the heath extension.
Another well know land mark in the area atributed again to Dame Henrietta Barnett is the school of the same name.
The heath extension has wild life areas with a few small ponds & bridle tracks running down the east side with a small children’s play area in the centre area.
Most of my walks tend to start very early in the morning as the weather is quite often at its best at this time, with the added bonus of catching a sunrise. But the strange thing about this tranquil area of the heath is i almost felt guilty about the noise i was making walking on the gravel paths. This may sound strange, but one of the annoying things about walks in the London area is the constant noise/drone of traffic & transport of London. This area seems to have avoided most of this with possibly the help of its surrounding geology & makes it a very nice place.

The 800 acre Hampstead area as a whole is shared by Boroughs Barnet & Camden & the city of London authorities, with English heritage looking after Kenwood House area of Hampstead.
The area also has a very active following with the members of the Hampstead Garden resident’s association & the Heath & Hampstead society which greatly much helps to preserve this area. (Well done)
From this walk you have many other local walks that you could link in with this one to make a whole day out with the 700 acres of Hampstead heath, Golders Hill park & Kenwood House to play with.
The area of the Hampstead Heath Extension is a comfortable walk with slight inclines, but if you venture of to other areas of the heath & Golders hill park, there are some walks for the hardier ones. But always worth remembering that London has a very good transport system to help you make some of these walks a little easier, so don't forget your Oyster card to get you up some of the steeper hills that your not ready to tackle just yet.
Just as another note: Remember the Dollis Valley green walk also links into this area from the Mill Hill & Barnet areas.
